Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 4 seed, defeated Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the Cluj-Napoca Open at the BT Arena on Monday evening.
Kalinina, ranked No 49, will face Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens next.
