Cluj-Napoca Open: Bronzetti books spot in last eight

Italian Lucia Bronzetti won against American Peyton Stearns, the No 3 seed, 6-2, 7-6 (1) to move into the quarter-finals of the Cluj-Napoca Open at the BT Arena on Thursday evening.

Bronzetti, ranked No 72, will play the winner of the match between Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 7 seed, and Romanian wildcard Ana Bogdan next.

Ahead of her victory, the Italian defeated Romanian wildcard Simona Halep (6-1, 6-1).

Stearns, ranked No 46, beat Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva (2-6, 6-2, 6-2) in the previous round of the Cluj-Napoca tournament.
