No 8 seed Sofia Kenin advanced to the second round of the Cleveland Open by edging out Katie Volynets 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 at Jacobs Pavilion on Tuesday night.
Kenin, ranked No 55, will play Frenchwoman Clara Burel next.
