Cleveland Open: Top seed Haddad Maia through to final to face American Kessler
The Brazilian defeated Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the semi-finals on Friday
Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia, the top seed, advance to the final of the WTA Cleveland Open by beating No 3 seed Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at Jacobs Pavilion on Friday night.
Haddad Maia, ranked No 23, will play American wildcard McCartney Kessler next. This is the first final in 2024 for the Brazilian, who has won three of the previous five finals she has reached on the WTA Tour.
The Brazilian won against Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic (6-3, 7-5), Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-2, 6-1) and Frenchwoman Clara Burel (6-2, 6-2) earlier in the week.
In the previous rounds of the tournament, Siniakova, ranked No 36, won against Japanese qualifier Sayaka Ishii (6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (5)), Spanish qualifier Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2)) and American Peyton Stearns, the No 6 seed (1-6, 6-3, 6-4).
