Russian Liudmila Samsonova reached the quarter-finals of the Citi Open by winning against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday evening.
Samsonova, ranked No 60, will play the winner of the match between Colombian Camila Osorio and second seed Emma Raducanu next.
The Russian beat Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 5 seed (7-6 (4), 6-4) in the previous round.
Tomljanovic, ranked No 69, won against American Sloane Stephens (6-1, 6-4).
