Cirstea to return in January but hints at retirement in 2025
The Romanian has not played on the tour since Wimbledon due to a foot injury
Romania’s Sorana Cirstea, who has been off the tour since Wimbledon due to a foot injury, will return to the tour at the start of the 2025 season.
Cirstea, who underwent surgery to fix a plantar fasciitis injury, shut down for the season in July and will now return in Adelaide in early January before playing the Australian Open.
However, the former world No 21, has also indicated that the 2025 season could be her last. While announcing that she will play her home WTA event, the Transylvania Open in February, the 34-year-old said that this could be the last time she plays in Cluj.
“The 2025 season might be my last on the WTA Tour.
““I’m happy to announce that in February I will play Transylvania Open in Cluj”, Cîrstea said in a message posted on social media.
“The 2025 season might be my last on the WTA Tour. I say ‘might’ because we can never be 100% certain of what the future holds. That’s why I really wanted to play one more tournament in Romania, and I’m thrilled to be back on court at the Transylvania Open in Cluj. I hope to see you there!”.
