China Open: Local favourite Wang sets up Kudermetova clash in second round
Wang won against Mai Hontama 6-1, 6-3 in the first round on Wednesday

China’s Xinyu Wang beat Japanese lucky loser Mai Hontama 6-1, 6-3 to move into the second round of the WTA China Open on Wednesday.
The Chinese player was scheduled to play Amanda Anisimova in the first round but the American withdrew, which sent Hontama into the main draw as a lucky loser. This was the 22-year-old’s 24th win of the season on the WTA Tour.
Wang, ranked No 50, will face No 32 seed Veronika Kudermetova at the National Tennis Center in Beijing next.
