China Open: Stearns books spot in third round
Peyton Stearns beat Leylah Fernandez on Friday. She’ll play Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 10 seed, in the next round
American Peyton Stearns advanced to the third round of the China Open by beating Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 20 seed, 7-5, 6-2 at the National Tennis Center in Beijing on Friday.
Stearns, ranked No 46, will face Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 10 seed, next.
The 22-year-old American won against Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (6-2, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
