Sabalenka rolls into China Open last 16
Aryna Sabalenka won against Ashlyn Krueger on Monday
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, beat American Ashlyn Krueger 6-2, 6-2 to move into the last 16 of the China Open at the National Tennis Center in Beijing on Monday.
Sabalenka needed two aces and five break points to down Krueger in 76 minutes, averaging 72 percent on first-serve points.
The result meant Belarusian has now won 48 matches in the 2024 season.
Sabalenka, ranked No 2, will play American Madison Keys, the No 18 seed, next.
The Belarusian won against Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew (6-4, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Krueger, ranked No 68, defeated Chinese Yafan Wang (3-6, 6-4, 6-2) and New Zealander Lulu Sun, the No 29 seed (6-1, 7-6 (4)).
