Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 16 seed, reached the last 16 of the China Open by winning against Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 on Tuesday night.
Kudermetova, ranked No 16 after her victory in Tokyo last weekend, will play American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed, next.
In the previous round, Tsurenko, ranked No 49, benefited from the abandonment of Chinese Lin Zhu (6-0, 3-0).
