China Open: Gauff reaches semi-finals
Coco Gauff defeated Yuliia Starodubtseva 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday and will play Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 15 seed, in the next round
American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, advanced to the last four of the China Open by winning against Ukrainian qualifier Yuliia Starodubtseva 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 at the National Tennis Center in Beijing on Thursday.
Gauff, ranked No 6, will face Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 15 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Beijing tournament, the 20-year-old American beat Frenchwoman Clara Burel (7-5, 6-3), No 26 seed Katie Boulter (7-5, 6-2) and Japanese Naomi Osaka (3-6, 6-4 ret.).
Starodubtseva, ranked No 115, won against German Laura Siegemund (6-4, 7-6 (3)), No 27 seed Katerina Siniakova (6-2, 6-2), Armenian Elina Avanesyan (6-3, 6-1) and Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 10 seed (7-5, 6-0) earlier in the tournament.
