China Open: Sramkova goes down to Badosa in third round

Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 15 seed, reached the last 16 of the China Open by beating Slovak qualifier Rebecca Sramkova 7-5, 7-5 at the National Tennis Center in Beijing on Sunday.

Badosa, ranked No 19, will play the winner of the match between Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 32 seed, and American Jessica Pegula, the second seed, next.

The Spaniard won against Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-3, 6-2) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds of the Beijing tournament, Sramkova, ranked No 61, defeated Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (6-4, 6-0) and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 22 seed (5-7, 6-4, 6-3).
