Chicago Women’s Open: Tomova books spot in semi-finals

Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova moved into the semi-finals of the Chicago Women’s Open by beating Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the No 8 seed, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 on Friday evening.
Tomova, ranked No 104, will face Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 5 seed, next.
In the previous rounds, the Bulgarian won against American lucky loser Adesuwa Osabuohien (6-0, 6-0) and Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the No 4 seed (6-4, 7-6 (5)).
Rakhimova, ranked No 78, defeated Pole Katarzyna Kawa (6-1, 6-2) and American wildcard Clervie Ngounoue (6-0, 5-7, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
