Chicago Women’s Open: Tomova books spot in last eight, beats Cornet

Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova reached the quarter-finals of the Chicago Women’s Open by defeating Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the No 4 seed, 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Thursday evening.
Tomova, ranked No 104, will play Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous round, the Bulgarian won against American lucky loser Adesuwa Osabuohien (6-0, 6-0).
Cornet, ranked No 65, won against American wildcard Whitney Osuigwe (6-0, 7-5) in the previous round.
