American Claire Liu won against Australian qualifier Storm Hunter in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) on Wednesday, in order to reach the quarter-finals of the Chicago Women’s Open.
Liu, ranked No 81, will now face Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 6 seed, for a spot into the semi-finals.
In the previous round, the American beat Romanian Irina Fetecau (6-1, 6-4).
Hunter, ranked No 167, won against Colombian Camila Osorio, the No 3 seed (6-2, 6-4) in the previous round.
