Chicago Women’s Open: Bronzetti advances to semi-finals after Baindl withdrawal
Lucia Bronzetti benefited from the forfeit of Kateryna Baindl on Thursday evening and will face the winner of the match between Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova and Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the No 8 seed, in the next round
Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 5 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Chicago Women’s Open after Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl withdrew before the match on Thursday evening.
Bronzetti, ranked No 82, will play the winner of the match between Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova and Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the No 8 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Italian won against Canadian Rebecca Marino (7-6 (4), 6-1) and American Quinn Gleason (7-6 (2), 6-2).
Baindl, ranked No 83, beat Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the top seed (7-6 (5), 6-3) and American Sophie Chang (7-6 (1), 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
