Japanese qualifier Nao Hibino moved into the quarter-finals of the Chennai Open by winning against Chinese Qiang Wang, the No 6 seed, 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday.
Hibino, ranked No 185, will face the winner of the match between Russian Anastasia Gasanova and Katie Swan next.
The Japanese defeated Croat qualifier Jana Fett (6-0, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Wang, ranked No 101, edged out Belgian Yanina Wickmayer (6-4, 1-6, 6-4).
