Canadian wild card Eugenie Bouchard won against Swiss Joanne Zuger 7-6 (4), 6-2 to move into the last 16 of the Chennai Open on Monday afternoon.
She will face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet, the No 8 seed, and Indian wildcard Karman Thandi next.
Bouchard has struggled with injury in recent years. The 2014 Wimbledon runner-up, the 28-year-old had dropped out of the WTA rankings earlier this year, but won her first match of 2022 in US Open qualifying by beating Yuki Naito 6-3, 6-3.
