Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova reached the second round of the Charleston Open by defeating Egyptian Mayar Sherif 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Monday.
Tomova, ranked No 74, will play No 3 seed Maria Sakkari next.
