Charleston Open: Hometown favourite Rogers comes from a set and 5-3 down to beat McNally
Rogers will play fourth seed and defending champion Belinda Bencic in the next round
Local favourite Shelby Rogers delighted the home fans in Charleston as she produced a remarkable comeback to beat countrywoman Caty McNally and reach the last 16 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Rogers trailed McNally 7-6, 5-3 before coming back to win 10 of the next 11 games and complete the 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-1 win in two hours and 51 minutes.
The American, ranked No 44 in the world, will play Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 4 seed and defending champion, next.
In the previous round of the Charleston tournament, Rogers won against No 13 seed Danielle Collins (6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-1) while McNally, ranked No 71, won against German Jule Niemeier (6-4, 6-1).
