Charleston Open: Kasatkina overcomes Pegula in tight tussle to reach final
Daria Kasatkina edged out Jessica Pegula 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) and will play the winner of the match between Maria Sakkari and Danielle Collins for the title
Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 4 seed, edged out American Jessica Pegula, the top seed, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) to advance to the final of the Charleston Open at the Family Circle Tennis Center.
Kasatkina, ranked No 11, will play the winner of the match between Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 3 seed, and American Danielle Collins next.
The Russian beat American Ashlyn Krueger (6-3, 0-6, 6-1), Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 15 seed (6-1, 6-4) and Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Charleston tournament, Pegula, ranked No 5, won against Amanda Anisimova (3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3)), Pole Magda Linette (6-2, 6-2) and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 12 seed (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7)).
