Charleston Open: Badosa holds off Fernandez to make last 16
Paula Badosa defeated Leylah Fernandez 7-5, 7-6 (6) on Wednesday evening and will play Diana Shnaider in the next round

Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 12 seed, won against Canadian Leylah Fernandez 7-5, 7-6 (6) to reach the last 16 of the Charleston Open at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Wednesday evening.
Badosa, ranked No 33, will play Diana Shnaider next.
In the previous round of the Charleston tournament, the Spaniard defeated Egyptian Mayar Sherif (6-3, 6-1).
Fernandez, ranked No 51, won against Russian Evgeniya Rodina (6-3, 6-2) in the first round of the Charleston tournament.
