Charleston Open: Alexandrova sets up Bencic rematch in quarters
The Russian is tied with Bencic at 3-3 in their head-to-head
Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 7 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Charleston Open by defeating Austrian Julia Grabher 6-4, 6-2 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Thursday.
Alexandrova, ranked No 17, will face Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 4 seed, in a rematch of the semi-final last year which the Swiss woman won en route to winning the title.
The pair are tied at 3-3 in their head-to-head and Alexandrova won their most recent encounter, last month in Miami in straight sets.
The Russian won against Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-1, 6-3) in the previous round of the Charleston tournament.
Grabher, ranked No 89, won against Chinese Shuai Zhang, the No 10 seed (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) and American qualifier Sachia Vickery (6-1, 6-2) earlier in the week.
