Catalonia Open: Sherif into semi-finals after top seed Navarro withdraws

Egyptian Mayar Sherif advanced to the semi-finals of the Catalonia Open after American Emma Navarro, the top seed, withdrew before the match on Friday afternoon.
Sherif, ranked No 72, will play the winner of the match between Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 3 seed, and Spanish wildcard Guiomar Maristany Zuleta De Reales next.
The Egyptian beat Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) and Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 8 seed (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds, Navarro, ranked No 23, won against Bernarda Pera (7-5, 4-6, 6-1) and Elizabeth Mandlik (6-4, 6-1).
