Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova edged out Swede Mirjam Bjorklund 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (1) to reach the last 16 of the Catalonia Open on Tuesday evening.
Schmiedlova, ranked No 96, will face the winner of the match between Spanish wildcard Aliona Bolsova and Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the second seed, next.
