Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 3 seed, won against Russian Erika Andreeva 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the last 8 of the Catalonia Open on Thursday.
Rus, ranked No 47, will face the winner of the match between Spanish wildcard Guiomar Maristany Zuleta De Reales and Serb Dejana Radanovic next.
The 33-year-old Dutchman beat Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-3, 6-4) in the previous round.
In the 32, Andreeva, ranked No 102, edged out Spaniard Rebeka Masarova (3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1)).
