Colombian Camila Osorio, the No 7 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Catalonia Open when Swede qualifier Mirjam Bjorklund retired on Wednesday.
Osorio, ranked No 63, led 4-1 when Bjorklund, ranked No 280, pulled out on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Colombian will play Croat Lucija Ciric Bagaric next.
