American qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik advanced to the quarter-finals of the Catalonia Open by winning against Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 6 seed, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 on Thursday night.
Mandlik, ranked No 147, will face Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz next.
In the previous round, the 21-year-old American beat Spanish qualifier Angela Fita Boluda (6-1, 7-5).
Paolini, ranked No 68, defeated Spanish wildcard Carlota Martinez Cirez (6-2, 6-1) in the previous round.
