Catalonia Open: Cirstea beats Davis and reaches the final
Sorana Cirstea won against Lauren Davis 6-4, 7-5 on Saturday and will play American qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik in the final
Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the second seed, advanced to the final of the Catalonia Open by winning against American Lauren Davis, the No 3 seed in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) on Saturday.
Cirstea, ranked No 44, will now face American qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik for the title.
The 33-year-old Romanian beat Spanish wildcard Aliona Bolsova (7-5, 6-0), Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (7-5, 6-4) and American Catherine McNally, the No 7 seed (6-2, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Davis, ranked No 56, won against Austrian Julia Grabher (6-2, 7-6 (4)), Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-2, 2-6, 7-5) and Colombian Camila Osorio (6-4, 6-3).
