Catalonia Open: Cirstea beats Mandlik in third set tiebreaker to win title
The Romanian lifted the trophy on Sunday after a hard-fought win over American qualifier Mandlik
Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the second seed, won the Catalonia Open final by edging out American qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (1) on Sunday.
Cirstea, ranked No 44, beat Spanish wildcard Aliona Bolsova (7-5, 6-0), Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (7-5, 6-4), American Catherine McNally, the No 7 seed (6-2, 6-2) and American Lauren Davis, the No 3 seed (6-4, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Mandlik, ranked No 147, defeated Spanish qualifier Angela Fita Boluda (6-1, 7-5), Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 6 seed (4-6, 7-5, 6-2), Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-4, 2-6, 6-1) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (7-5, 4-6, 6-4).
