Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich advanced to the last eight of the Cancun Tennis Open by edging out Australian Taylah Preston 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 on Wednesday.
Shymanovich, ranked No 234, will face No 8 seed Francesca Jones next.
The Belarusian defeated German Tatjana Maria, the top seed (6-2, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Preston, ranked No 160, edged out Mexican wildcard Victoria Rodriguez (6-2, 4-6, 6-4).
