Cancun Tennis Open: Maya Joint reaches last four

Australian Maya Joint, the No 3 seed, won against Argentinian Solana Sierra, the No 7 seed, 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-1 to move into the last four of the Cancun Tennis Open on Thursday night.

Joint, ranked No 112, will play Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine next.

The 18-year-old Australian edged out American Hanna Chang (6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-4) and defeated American wildcard Madison Sieg (6-0, 6-3) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds, Sierra, ranked No 155, beat Romanian Patricia Maria Tig (6-0, 6-3) and Dutchwoman Anouk Koevermans (7-5, 6-3).
