Cancun Tennis Open: Branstine through to semi-finals
Carson Branstine defeated Katarzyna Kawa 6-0, 6-3 on Thursday evening. She’ll face the winner of the match between Argentinian Solana Sierra, the No 7 seed, and Australian Maya Joint, the No 3 seed, in the next round
Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine defeated Pole Katarzyna Kawa 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals of the Cancun Tennis Open on Thursday evening.
Branstine, ranked No 272, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Solana Sierra, the No 7 seed, and Australian Maya Joint, the No 3 seed, next.
The Canadian edged out Japanese Ena Shibahara, the No 6 seed (6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (2)) and won against American qualifier Lauren Davis (7-6 (4), 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds, Kawa, ranked No 241, beat Brazilian Laura Pigossi (4-6, 7-5, 6-1) and American Louisa Chirico (6-2, 6-1).
