Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine reached the last 16 of the Cancun Tennis Open by edging out Japanese Ena Shibahara, the No 6 seed, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (2) on Monday.
Branstine, ranked No 272, will face American qualifier Lauren Davis next.
