Cancun Tennis Open: Branstine books spot in final

Carson Branstine won against Maya Joint 6-2, 6-3 on Friday night and will face the winner of the match between No 8 seed Francesca Jones and Colombian Emiliana Arango for the title

Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine defeated Australian Maya Joint, the No 3 seed, 6-2, 6-3 to reach the final of the Cancun Tennis Open on Friday night.

Branstine, ranked No 272, will face the winner of the match between No 8 seed Francesca Jones and Colombian Emiliana Arango next.

Ahead of her victory, the Canadian won against Japanese Ena Shibahara, the No 6 seed (6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (2)), American qualifier Lauren Davis (7-6 (4), 6-2) and Pole Katarzyna Kawa (6-0, 6-3).

Joint, ranked No 112, beat American Hanna Chang (6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-4), American wildcard Madison Sieg (6-0, 6-3) and Argentinian Solana Sierra, the No 7 seed (7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
