Canberra Open: Wei beats Eala, to face Ito in final
Wei defeated Alexandra Eala 7-5, 6-2 in the semi-finals on Friday
Chinese Sijia Wei advanced to the final of the Canberra Open by beating Filipino qualifier Alexandra Eala 7-5, 6-2 on Friday.
Wei, ranked No 134, will play Japanese Aoi Ito, the No 7 seed, next at the Canberra Tennis Centre.
Ahead of her win today, the 21-year-old Chinese won against Australian wildcard Lizette Cabrera (6-3, 6-4), Thai Mananchaya Sawangkaew, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-2) and Simona Waltert (6-1, 6-4).
Eala, ranked No 147, won against Austrian qualifier Sinja Kraus (6-2, 6-4), Dutchwoman Arianne Hartono (6-3, 6-3) and Australian wildcard Taylah Preston (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) earlier in the week.
