Serb Nina Stojanovic beat Australian wildcard Petra Hule 6-2, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Canberra Open at the Canberra Tennis Centre on Wednesday.

Stojanovic, ranked No 250, will face Japanese Aoi Ito, the No 7 seed, next.

The Serb won against Argentinian qualifier Solana Sierra (6-2, 6-1) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round of the Canberra tournament, Hule, ranked No 312, won against Russian Anastasia Zakharova, the No 3 seed (6-3, 6-3).
