Canberra Open: Selekhmeteva moves into last eight

Russian qualifier Oksana Selekhmeteva moved into the quarter-finals of the Canberra Open by edging out Hungarian Dalma Galfi 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at the Canberra Tennis Centre on Wednesday.

Selekhmeteva, ranked No 176, will play Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz, the top seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the 21-year-old Russian edged out Croat Petra Martic, the No 5 seed (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4)).

Galfi, ranked No 141, won against Ukrainian Daria Snigur (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) in the previous round of the Canberra tournament.
