Filipino qualifier Alexandra Eala defeated Dutchwoman Arianne Hartono 6-3, 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the Canberra Open at the Canberra Tennis Centre on Wednesday.

Eala, ranked No 147, will face Australian wildcard Taylah Preston next.

Ahead of her victory, the 19-year-old Filipino won against Austrian qualifier Sinja Kraus (6-2, 6-4).

Hartono, ranked No 165, beat Hungarian Anna Bondar, the second seed (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) in the previous round of the Canberra tournament.
