Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, edged out No 14 seed Karolina Muchova 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to advance to the last eight of the Canadian Open at Stade IGA in Montreal on Thursday night.

Despite only playing for two hours and 47 minutes, this was a match that took more than nine hours to complete, courtesy of the Montreal rain. However, Swiatek was able to hold her focus across the day, winning in three sets against the 14th seed.
