Canadian Open: Samsonova makes last eight, beats second seed Sabalenka
Liudmila Samsonova defeated Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-3 on Friday evening. She’ll face the winner of the match between No 7 seed Petra Kvitova and Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 12 seed, in the next round
Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 15 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open by defeating Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-3 at Stade IGA in Montreal on Friday evening.
Samsonova, ranked No 18, will play the winner of the match between No 7 seed Petra Kvitova and Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 12 seed, next.

Samsonova saved 11 of 13 break points to reach the first WTA 1000 quarter-final of her career.
Earlier in the tournament, the Russian won against Katerina Siniakova (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) and Chinese Qinwen Zheng (6-3, 6-2).
Sabalenka, ranked No 2, beat Croat Petra Martic (6-3, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Rogers Cup.
