American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed, won against Kazakh lucky loser Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 6-4 to move into the last 16 of the Canadian Open at Stade IGA in Montreal on Wednesday evening.

Pegula, ranked No 3, will play Italian Jasmine Paolini next.
In the previous round of the Rogers Cup, Putintseva, ranked No 61, beat American Bernarda Pera (6-3, 6-4).
