Australian qualifier Tina Nadine Smith advanced to the last 4 of the Cali Open by winning against Spaniard Leyre Romero Gormaz 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday.
Smith, ranked No 322, will face the winner of the match between No 8 seed Anca Todoni and second seed Irina-Camelia Begu next.
The 22-year-old Australian defeated Spaniard Aliona Bolsova (6-3, 6-3) and American Robin Montgomery, the No 3 seed (6-3, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Romero Gormaz, ranked No 168, won against Argentinian Julia Riera, the No 5 seed (7-6 (5), 6-3) and qualifier Alicia Herrero Linana (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
