Budapest Open: Tomova moves into semi-finals

Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova defeated Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals of the Budapest Open at Római Tennis Academy on Thursday night.
Tomova, ranked No 109, will face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin and American Lauren Davis next.
The Bulgarian won against Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 3 seed (4-6, 6-0, 6-2) and edged out Austrian Julia Grabher (3-6, 6-1, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Schmiedlova, ranked No 122, beat Brazilian qualifier Carolina M. Alves (6-0, 6-3) and Egyptian Mayar Sherif (6-3, 6-2).
