Budapest Open: Korpatsch lifts the trophy
Tamara Korpatsch lifted the trophy on Saturday afternoon against Viktoriya Tomova.
German qualifier Tamara Korpatsch defeated Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova 7-6 (3), 6-7 (4), 6-0 to win the Budapest Open title at Római Tennis Academy on Saturday.
In the previous rounds, Korpatsch, ranked No 118, beat Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 4 seed (2-6, 6-4, 6-4), Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (6-3, 1-6, 7-5), Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (6-3, 3-6, 6-0) and Hungarian Anna Bondar, the second seed (7-5, 6-4).
Tomova, ranked No 109, beat Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 3 seed (4-6, 6-0, 6-2), Austrian Julia Grabher (3-6, 6-1, 7-5), Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-1, 7-5) and Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin (4-6, 6-3, 4-1 ret.) earlier in the tournament.
