Brisbane Open: Krueger beats Lamens to reach last eight
The American will face the winner of the match between qualifier Polina Kudermetova and No 3 seed Daria Kasatkina in the next round
American Ashlyn Krueger advanced to the last eight of the Brisbane Open by beating Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens 7-5, 6-0 at the Queensland Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Krueger, ranked No 64, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Polina Kudermetova and No 3 seed Daria Kasatkina next.
The 20-year-old American won against Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (6-3, 1-6, 6-3) and Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-3) earlier in the week.
In the previous rounds of the tournament, Lamens, ranked No 87, won against Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-2, 6-4) and Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 11 seed (7-5, 6-3).
