Brisbane International: Rybakina makes last 16, faces Mertens next

Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the second seed, won against Australian qualifier Olivia Gadecki 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the last 16 of the Brisbane International on Wednesday.
Rybakina, ranked No 4 in the world and the 2022 Wimbledon champion, will play Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 13 seed, next.
Gadecki, ranked No 124, had edged out wildcard Kimberly Birrell (4-6, 6-0, 6-4) in the previous round of the tournament.
