Spaniard Leyre Romero Gormaz reached the last 16 of the Bolivia Open when Italian Nuria Brancaccio retired on Monday evening.
Romero Gormaz, ranked No 167, led 6-4, 3-6, 5-0 when Brancaccio, ranked No 211, pulled out on Monday evening.
The Spaniard will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Martina Capurro Taborda and No 8 seed Francesca Jones next.
