Birmingham Open: Putintseva advances to last four

Kazakh Yulia Putintseva moved into the semi-finals of the Birmingham Open by winning against American lucky loser Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-1 at Edgbaston Priory Club on Friday.
Putintseva, ranked No 41, will face Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto next.
The Kazakh defeated Frenchwoman Clara Burel (6-3, 6-4) and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (6-3, 6-0) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Dolehide, ranked No 61, edged out Karolina Pliskova (2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)) and benefited from the abandonment of Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 5 seed (6-3, 3-0).
