Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 5 seed, reached the last 16 of the Birmingham Open by winning against Dane wildcard Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-1 at Edgbaston Priory Club on Tuesday.
Mertens, ranked No 32, will face the winner of the match between Karolina Pliskova and American lucky loser Caroline Dolehide next.
